STUDIOLOGY [stu.di.ol.o.gy]

Interdisciplinary design studio rooted in experimentation and play

Founded by Rosma Gutierrez in 2017, Studiology offers design consulting services and original branded product lines. The company’s approach to all its projects, including the design of both hand-crafted and mass-produced objects, is a direct reflection of Rosma’s 20-year immersion in industry and the fine arts.

Rosma was born in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. She holds a BFA in Industrial Design and Metalsmithing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Her professional design work has covered a broad range of disciplines, everything from jewelry and housewares to children’s products and award-winning furniture. Most recently, Rosma spent nearly a decade at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, where she designed furniture, kitchens, home décor, outdoor furniture, and other categories of product, rising to the position of AVP Deputy Design Director. Her long list of honors includes a 2011 Pinnacle Design Achievement Award from the American Society of Furniture Designers.

Throughout her career, Rosma has tapped into her childhood in Bolivia as a rich source of inspiration. That upbringing helped her develop a design language that’s uniquely her own—a language now also influenced by her new home nestled within the Hudson Valley’s lush vistas and among its woodland creatures. The Studiology collection of hypertufa planters, while rooted in the craft’s tradition, displays a contemporary twist and a touch of whimsy that are pure Rosma.
